In the last 30 draws, no one has won the top prize as the jackpot has skyrocketed. The last time the jackpot was won was on September 10th in Texas for $810 million.

According to Mega Millions, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.

“Congratulations to our $1.22 billion jackpot winner from California,” said Joshua Johnston, Executive Director of the Mega Millions Consortium. “What a great gift this holiday season! At this incredibly special time of year, this is an incredibly special moment for both our winner and all the amazing organizations and charities that benefit from lottery ticket sales across the country. Thank you to everyone who plays along. Thanks to you, we have winners across the country taking home cash prizes large and small, and educational causes, parks and many other great organizations also benefit. Thank you and congratulations to all of our winners.”

In total, there were more than 31.4 million winning tickets across all prize tiers during the 31 drawings that began after the final Texas jackpot was won on Sept. 10 – including 65 second-tier prizes worth $1 million or more . According to Mega Millions, prizes were won in 26 different jurisdictions from coast to coast.

“It is only the fourth Mega Millions jackpot won in 2024, and with just one more drawing this year, there is a good chance the year will end with the fewest jackpots won since the game began in 2002,” Mega Millions said after the drawing on Friday. “In addition to the $810 million Texas win on September 10th, a $552 million windfall went to an online player from Illinois on June 4th (the largest lottery prize ever won at an online ticket purchase), and a huge $1.128 billion prize was won in New York Jersey on March 26.”

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, DC and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are $2 for a game.
