Winter storm hits the region on Sunday and Monday

A “potentially significant winter storm” is forecast for the Louisville area on Sunday and Monday, with snow, sleet and freezing rain expected, according to an update from the National Weather Service Wednesday afternoon.

Snow is expected to begin falling Sunday morning, turning into a “wintry mix” throughout the day.

“Significant icing is at risk over the northern half of Kentucky, primarily along and north of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways,” the NWS reported.

Weather forecast for the Louisville area

Thursday

Partly sunny, with a high near 42 and west winds 5 to 8 mph. After 1am there is a 30% chance of rain, the sky will be mostly cloudy and the minimum temperature will be 32°C.

Friday

Skies will be cloudy becoming sunny with a high near 35°C and northwest winds 7 to 11 mph, with gusts up to 21 mph. Friday evening will be mostly clear, with a low around 7 p.m.

Saturday

Sunny with a high of around 32°C. There is a 20% chance of snow after 1pm with partly cloudy skies and a low of around 22°C.
