Road conditions will deteriorate rapidly throughout the morning. From 2 p.m. the warm air in the upper atmosphere will slowly begin to flow north. By late afternoon, snowfall will transition into a wintry mix from south to north. Areas north of Chattanooga have a greater chance of remaining snow, while areas in Alabama and Georgia are likely to see sleet, freezing rain and cold rains. Temperatures will hover around 32 degrees for most of the day.

Most of the wintry rainfall will ease on Friday evening and temperatures will fall back into the upper 20s.

Snow buzzes

Widespread snow totals of 2 to 5 inches still appear to be a good bet, with higher amounts possible north and west of Chattanooga. In areas where there is still a lot of snow, exceedances are possible. Areas with more sleet/freezing rain will have lower amounts of snow. A light layer of ice will also be possible for our communities in Alabama and Georgia.
