Emergency workers are asking people to stay off the roads unless necessary. Snow is expected to begin in the early to mid morning hours. This band of snow will likely be moderate to heavy and could bring several inches of snow. Snow will change to sleet and then freezing rain Sunday afternoon into the evening. A large zone of freezing rain is expected across southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky, including the Louisville metropolitan area where significant icing is possible. With winds expected to be quite gusty, power outages are commonplace. Check power outages: Duke | Temperatures continue to rise in LG and EA, any freezing rain will turn to rain, especially in southern parts of Kentucky Sunday evening. There will be frequent areas of drizzle and freezing rain as we approach Monday, but as the upper energy of this system moves through, another band of light to intermittently moderate snowfall will develop Monday morning, lasting into the midday hours. TOTALS: If you add up the snow/sleet we’re expecting on Sunday and Monday, 5 to 6 inches in the metro area seems like a pretty good bet, with higher totals to the north and lower amounts as you head south. As far as ice goes, the biggest concern from this entire storm will be near and south of the I-64 corridor. 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch is expected. The ice can cause power outages and road problems. And what falls will last, as temperatures will remain well below freezing in the following days – we’re talking bitter cold, sometimes in the single digits – so you can expect the effects to linger.

This band of snow will likely be moderate to heavy and could bring several inches of snow. On Sunday afternoon and into the evening the snow will change to sleet and then to freezing rain.

Afternoon

A large zone of freezing rain is expected across southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky, including the Louisville metropolitan area where significant icing is possible.

Since gusty winds are expected, power outages are commonplace.

As temperatures continue to warm, freezing rain will turn to rain Sunday night, primarily in southern portions of Kentucky.

There will be frequent areas of drizzle and freezing rain as we approach Monday, but as the upper energy of this system moves through, another band of light to intermittently moderate snowfall will develop Monday morning, lasting into the midday hours.
