Although the storm is expected to weaken on Monday after crossing the Appalachian Mountains, wintry weather is still expected across the region FOX Forecast Center said.

“There’s a chance of snow on Monday, which we’ll have to track as it gets closer,” Johnson said.

The storm is forecast for Monday, when forecasters expect cold Arctic air coupled with a precipitation system could produce snow.

According to NOAA’s pre-military forecast, the snow threat will begin during the overnight hours Monday and continue through the morning and afternoon, easing into the evening.

“A significant pattern change is expected across much of the country as an Arctic outbreak is expected to spread from the northern plains south and east, resulting in an exceptionally high chance of below-average temperatures across much of the East,” the National said The Weather Service Climate Prediction Center said in a post on “X.”

The National Weather Service said freezing precipitation was possible in central parts of the country and heavy snow could affect the Northeast.

“Frozen precipitation is possible across portions of the Southern Plains and the Southeast, with the possibility of heavy snow extending northward to include large portions of the Appalachians, Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, Great Lakes and Northeast,” the agency said .

The National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center (WPC) said that while confidence in the storm is increasing, there remains uncertainty about its timing and direction as it moves east.

“Uncertainty remains regarding the timing and location of the storm track, which will be important in determining where the strongest impacts will occur,” the NOAA NWS Weather Prediction Center said in a post on Facebook.

By next week, a significant Arctic outbreak will cause temperatures to plummet along the East Coast, and the air will be the coldest of the season so far.
