Winter Storm Warning for 8 Michigan counties with 6 to 12 inches of snow possible

A winter storm warning goes into effect Sunday evening for several Michigan counties.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids is forecasting up to 12 inches of snow along the Lake Michigan shoreline for the following counties:

  • Allegan

  • Berries

  • Cass

  • mason

  • Muskegon

  • Oceana

  • Ottawa

  • VanBuren

The winter storm watch runs through Monday night.

“Lake effect snow will increase this evening into Monday morning. Lake effect snow is expected to continue Monday through Tuesday morning. Snowfall will vary greatly by county due to the nature of lake effect snow. Amounts vary with widespread 1 to 4 inches and locally 8 to 12+ inches in a region west of Kalamazoo and south of Holland. Impacts are expected to impact I-94 and I-196 in the above regions. The primary impacts will be snow-covered roads, reduced visibility and slowed travel speeds.” – NWS Grand Rapids

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Barry, Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties, with 1 to 4 inches of snow expected.

Snow showers are expected in the Detroit area, but no major accumulation is forecast.

The Upper Peninsula braced for nearly two feet of snow hit by a winter storm over the weekend. More snow is expected in parts of UP through Monday.
