Winter Storm Warning Issued; There could be several feet of snow by Monday

JACKSON, Wyo. – The National Weather Service office in Riverton, Wyo. (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for Jackson Hole and a winter storm warning for the Teton and Gros Ventre mountain ranges, effective starting at 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5. 26, until Friday, December 27, 11 p.m.

In the Valley, NWS is calling for total snow accumulations between 5 and 9 inches through Friday night, as well as wind gusts “up to 30 mph, resulting in blowing/blown snow.” In the Teton Mountains, snowfall could be between 20 and 45 centimeters, with “up to 60 centimeters at the peaks,” according to NWS. In the mountains, wind gusts could reach speeds of 40 miles per hour.

In an additional warning covering most of western Wyoming, NWS expects this to be the start of a multi-day snow event, with “several feet of snow” falling in the mountains through Monday.

Vehicle movement is expected to be difficult during this storm sequence. Hazardous driving conditions are expected during commute times on Thursday and Friday.
