Use caution on the roads today if you are in northern Alabama.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a winter weather advisory for all of its northern Alabama counties. It is valid until Monday, 7 p.m.

The weather service said up to an inch of snow was possible and any remaining precipitation could freeze on roads, creating dangerous driving conditions.

The weather service received a report from Jackson County in northeast Alabama just after 1 p.m. that snow had begun to fall and settle on roads.

Forecasters said those in northern Alabama “should expect slippery road conditions with fallen precipitation refreezing into the afternoon hours. The dangerous conditions could impact Monday evening’s commute.”

The counties in the advisory are Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman.

The weather service has received reports of everything from severe weather to dust clouds in areas of northern Alabama and is worried about possible travel problems if it continues.

The weather service in Birmingham has also been collecting reports of severe weather in north-central Alabama, but has not reported any travel issues so far.

According to forecasters, flurries or even snow showers are possible today into the afternoon hours.
