Winter Weather Warning for Parts of Massachusetts – Boston 25 News

CALM BEFORE THE STORM

Wednesday will feel a lot like Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Cloud cover will increase throughout the day, but it is forecast to remain dry during the day. An isolated rain or snow shower may occur in southern New England as early as 5:00 p.m. (with very little impact), but the chance of widespread precipitation is greater late in the evening.

FAST CLIPPER

A “clipper” will come through this evening and Thursday morning with a wintry mix. There will be a mix of snow and rain near the coast, but it will be difficult to hold out as temperatures are expected to remain above freezing. I don’t want to rule out some grass cover east of 95/128 into Boston, but the roads will generally be wet in that area. Between 95 and 495, a 1-inch layer may result in muddy and slippery patches overnight and Thursday morning. The worst travel conditions will be north and west of 495, where 1 to 3 inches is expected, with higher totals at elevations northwest MA to southwest New Hampshire, particularly north of Rt 2.

After 8 a.m. the rain and snow showers will ease. The remainder of the day will be characterized by dry and stormy spells, with the possibility of some rain and snow squalls as colder air blows into the region. It will be very windy throughout the day, particularly around the Cape and Islands where a wind warning is in effect for gusts of up to 50mph.

COLD END

Get ready for cold and windy conditions on Friday. For singles and teenagers, the wind chills only rise to 20 degrees when they wake up in the afternoon.
