Wintry mix is causing problems on the roads this morning

(WFSB) – A wintry mix of snow, freezing rain and plain rain created slippery conditions on roads across the state Monday morning.

This led to school closures and delays. Check out the full list Here.

The conditions also led to a number of spinouts and crashes.

Channel 3’s First Alert Weather Tracker spent some time checking conditions in the Waterbury area.

The crew reported mixed precipitation and slick roads.

“Inshore areas will see just rain, while inland communities will see some snow, sleet and freezing rain/drizzle,” said meteorologist Scot Haney. “Higher elevations in the mountain towns could see up to an inch of snow accumulation, while lower elevations closer to I-84 could see a light covering of snow.”

Haney said the main concern is the freezing rain.

“This could cause dangerous road conditions and impact the (Monday morning) commute,” he said.

Temperatures were expected to rise above the freezing mark by mid-morning, which should allow for melting.
