Wintry weather across Michigan is causing slick roads and school closures

Metro Detroit residents woke up to snow and icy roads as expected on Thursday, and the area won’t warm up until the weekend.

Additionally, some may need to search for their inflatable Christmas lawn decorations or trash cans.

The National Weather Service said Thursday that winter weather warnings issued Wednesday evening for parts of northern, central and western Michigan have expired and the threat of snow squalls and heavy snow showers has passed.

Also Thursday, Michigan’s largest electric companies reported that thousands of their customers were without power. DTE Energy said more than 2,100 of its customers were in the dark as of 8 a.m. Additionally, DTE Energy said 99.9% of its customers continued to have service. Consumers Energy reported that about 3,400 of its customers experienced a power outage, but the majority have their lights on – 99.8% as of 8 a.m.
