Wisconsin school shooter identified as 17-year-old student: reports

The teenage gunman who opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, killing a teacher and another student, was a 17-year-old student, according to the Associated Press.

The detail was shared with the AP by a police official who was not authorized to disclose personal information that police withheld from the press as of Monday at 5 p.m. CNN also reported that the shooter was a student.

No further details were immediately available and Madison police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Dec. 16, police in Madison, Wisconsin, responded to an active shooter call reported at the school, Chief Shon Barnes said at a news conference.

Three people, including the shooter, died and six others were hospitalized with minor to life-threatening injuries, Barnes said.

The shooter was found dead at the school after officers responded to the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the shooter’s death were not immediately clear, although Barnes noted that police did not fire their weapons.

However, police know the suspect’s identity and have issued a search warrant for the person’s home; Barnes said the family is cooperating with the investigation.
