With a franchise record winning streak, the Lions reach the playoffs

The Lions continued to roar.

On Thursday night, they tied a franchise record with 11 straight wins, thanks to a 34-31 walk-off win over Green Bay. This makes the Lions, along with the Bills and Chiefs, the three teams that have secured a spot in the playoffs.

The Lions still have a lot of work to do; They lead both the Eagles and Vikings by one game in the loss column. At 10-2, Philadelphia has a chance to keep up with the Panthers at home on Sunday. The 10-2 Vikings host the Falcons and six-year Minnesota starter Kirk Cousins.

Things won’t get any easier next week when the Lions host the 10-2 Bills in the late afternoon window on Sunday.

The Lions finish with two road games in Chicago and San Francisco before ending the season with a visit to the Vikings. It remains very likely that the NFC North title will come to this game in Week 18, with the winner potentially taking first place and the loser being relegated to a wild-card road game.

Still, the Lions keep winning. Sometimes it’s easy. Sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes they make it harder than necessary.

Regardless, the Lions did something they had never done before, rattling off 11 straight wins after a home loss to Tampa Bay in Week 2.

In time, Detroit will try to do something else it has never done before – qualify for a Super Bowl.
