Wolves predicted XI against Newcastle

Wolves return to the Premier League on Wednesday evening with a tough game against European hopefuls Newcastle United.

Wolves are on a high after picking up a 2-1 win over Bristol City in the FA Cup to progress to the fourth round against Blackburn Rovers.

Vitor Pereira was praised by Dave Edwards for fielding a strong team at Ashton Gate and the Old Gold will need to carry their momentum into Wednesday’s game.

The trip to St James’ Park is the start of a massive run of games for Pereira’s men, who face Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool in their next five games respectively.

With Wanderers currently level on points with the bottom three, this could be a turning point in the fight for survival and it has been suggested they will get off to a poor start.

Chris Sutton predicts Newcastle will beat Wolves 3-0, with many in gold trying to prove him wrong, including those returning.

Wolves team news and injury updates ahead of Newcastle

Pereira’s squad has been tested to the limit in recent weeks. Matheus Cunha is out due to a two-game suspension.

The Portuguese tactician was also without Nelson Semedo, Toti Gomes and Craig Dawson; three players who are crucial to his defense.

However, Pereira provided a positive injury update ahead of Newcastle, revealing that Cunha, Semedo, Dawson and Mario Lemina are all fit to return.

There is a guarantee that Cunha will start at St James’ Park, although the other changes are not clear and several players are flourishing of late.

For example, Rodrigo Gomes caused havoc against Bristol City in Semedo’s absence, while Pedro Lima impressed on his Premier League debut.

With that said, here’s a look at how Wolves could line up during the week.

Wolves predicted XI against Newcastle

Sam Johnstone made his first start under Pereira at the weekend, replacing Jose Sa between the posts.

However, Pereira is likely to be back in Sa’s starting XI in goal against Newcastle, as the Portuguese goalkeeper has impressed in recent weeks.

In truth, the back three could remain the same, with Matt Doherty on the right, Santi Bueno in the middle and on the left new signing Emmanuel Agbadou, who impressed against Bristol City.

A midfield duo of Andre and Joao Gomes should retain their position in the lineup despite the return of Lemina, while Rodrigo Gomes can continue on the right with Rayan Ait-Nouri at left full-back.

Wolves fans called for the sale of Hwang Hee-chan after his shocking performance at Ashton Gate and the £14million man will be replaced by the returning Cunha, who has 14 goal involvements this season.

Meanwhile, Jorgen Strand Larsen is guaranteed to start alongside the Brazilian, while Goncalo Guedes makes up the front three.

Wolves (3-4-3): Sat; Doherty, Bueno, Agbadou; R. Gomes, Gomes, Andre, Ait-Nouri; Guedes, Cunha, Larsen Beach.
