WVU is firing football coach Neal Brown after six years with the team

West Virginia University announced that coach Neal Brown of the university’s Mountaineers football program will not return next season. In a statement Sunday, the university announced the change “in the leadership of the football program” and said a national search is underway for WVU’s 36th head coach. “We will continue to focus on the incredible young men in our program and prepare for our bowl game,” West Virginia University Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said in the statement. “I am confident that this will be the case given the strong alignment within the university.” “With our leadership, our passionate supporters, our proud history and our willingness to invest, we will have an excellent candidate pool.” Brown concluded his term at the WVU lost with an overall record of 37-35. The statement said WVU earned a bowl berth this season and Brown’s teams have appeared in four bowl games in his six years, including wins in the Liberty and Duke’s-Mayo Bowls. His overall record as a head coach is 72-51 after 10 seasons at West Virginia and Troy.
