Xbox previews cloud streaming of games you own on consoles

Microsoft has a beta test that will finally bring cloud streaming to Xbox consoles. Xbox Insiders Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha tier participants can now use this feature on their Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles.

This news is an expansion of the “Stream Your Own Game” feature that Microsoft introduced in November. In this initial launch, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers were able to stream select games they purchased digitally to their TVs, Meta Quest VR headsets, and some supported browser setups. The company announced at the time that it planned to bring streaming to Xbox consoles and the Windows Xbox app in 2025.

While this update is a welcome addition to the Stream Your Own Game hardware, there are still some limitations to this feature. First, it’s limited to Game Pass Ultimate members. Secondly, the game must support cloud streaming. There are currently only a few titles in the program, but some of them are excellent and worth a look: Baldur’s Gate 3, Balatro, Cyberpunk 2077, Animal welfare, Strays and the first six Final Fantasy Games, to name just a few highlights. Once this is available to the entire Xbox audience, it should be a useful way to optimize game downloads and access your entire library without having to pay for external storage.

In related Microsoft news, the Windows Xbox app is getting . The app’s new home screen highlights curated game collections and suggested titles, as well as the latest game news, releases and sales.
