Like the viewers, Denim Richards also mourns the latest “Yellowstone” victim.

Colby Mayfield, Richards’ favorite character on the hit Paramount Network series, was killed in the final episode of the show’s fifth and supposedly final season.

The Dutton family ranch hand died accidentally in a horse stable. He was fatally struck by a horse after rescuing young ranch hand Carter (Finn Little).

Richards, 36, took to Instagram to mourn the death of his character, who he played since the show’s first season in 2018.

The actor shared a picture of his chair on set with his name on it. Colby’s signature attire, including his white cowboy hat and black boots, were also featured in the photo.

“Grateful🙏🏾✊🏾🙏🏾 #Yellowstone,” Richards captioned his post.

On his Instagram Stories, Richards shared several posts honoring Colby, including one from a fan account owned by Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) that said, “RIP Colby, we will miss you.”

Richards also posted a tribute to his co-star Jennifer Landon, who plays Colby’s girlfriend Teeter.

Richards had a recurring role in the first two seasons of the series before being promoted to main cast member starting in season 3.

Colby is the latest “Yellowstone” character to be killed off in the second half of season five, following John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and Sarah (Dawn Olivieri), who orchestrated John’s murder.

Executive producer Christina Voros, who has directed all episodes of Season 5 so far, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday about the impact of Colby’s murder.

“The thing that I find so shocking about Colby’s death is that in a season where there are all these twists and dark forces and huge narrative shifts, Colby’s death is so powerful because of how simple it is,” Voros said. “For anyone who really understands the cowboy lifestyle and working with animals and the risks of the jobs – and Rip says this about himself – it’s a dangerous job and something like this happens in a split second.”

“In a world full of dramas where the stakes are high, this death is a shock because it is so simple and so ingrained in the world in which all these characters work that it is deeply tragic because it is here “There is no enemy,” she continued. “It’s the risk of the job. And especially because of the way Colby and Teeter’s relationship has developed – absence makes the heart grow fonder; and their relationship had just started to take off in a different way – the timing of this is just heartbreaking.”

Voros was also asked whether the final episode of season five, which airs on December 15, will really mark the end of “Yellowstone.”

“I don’t think I can answer that any other way than when we talked about it. It’s difficult,” she said. “The deeper you get into the season, the more moves have already happened and the harder it becomes to talk about what’s coming.”

“So much care and attention has been given to this narrative that the desire to tip one’s hat to what’s to come is very real.”

“Yellowstone” airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Paramount Network.
