You’ll believe a man can fly (and so can his dog!)

The first trailer for James Gunn‘S Superman is finally here and it’s a big deal: This isn’t just one of the first full looks David Corenswetis Man of Steel, but it is also the first film project about Gunn and Peter Safranis the DC Studios list. There is one much packaged in the trailer, including allusions to various parts of the Superman mythology and hints at a larger DC Universe (although Gunn has claimed this). Superman will mostly be a standalone project.) Here’s a breakdown of everything that happens in the trailerand how it looks like audiences will once again believe that a man can fly.

Unlike most trailers for a superhero movie Superman begins with a frightening sight: Superman falls to earth, covered in blood and exhausted. As the Man of Steel slowly raises his head, he lets out a piercing whistle and a figure runs towards him. This figure is none other than Krypto the Super Dog, complete with cape and everything. “Krypto…take me home,” Superman croaks, whereupon Krypto grabs his companion’s cloak in his teeth and runs away. According to Gunn, this scene is like Superman begins. “At the end of the day, this movie isn’t about power,” he told Vanity Fair. “In the broadest sense of the word, this film is about a person who struggles with his everyday life. And we see a different aspect of him at the beginning. I thought that would be a cool starting point for the trailer” – and the movie, honestly.”

“Superman” will cover every aspect of Clark Kent’s life

True to Gunn’s word Superman The trailer offers insight into every aspect of the Man of Steel’s life. He showed how he races to work Daily Planetwhere he meets Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). Clark also travels to his hometown of Smallville, where he meets his adoptive father Jonathan (Pruitt Taylor Vince). There’s also plenty of Superman actionincluding an epic moment where he saves a little girl from a wall of racing debris. Another key moment sees Superman battling a giant monster capable of spitting streams of flame, highlighting how extraordinary events often plague Metropolis and the rest of the DC Universe. Case in point: In another moment, Superman and Lois are talking while a mysterious alien creature appears in the background – and the trailer even ends with them hugging as he appears ready to face said creature.

The trailer even features a glimpse of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude rising from the sky and a scene where Superman is shown cradling a destroyed robot. In the Superman comics, Clark Kent often uses robots to maintain the fortress or stand in for him, so it’s possible that this is one of those robots. Another possibility is Kelex, the robot who worked with Superman’s biological father Jor-El and also guards the fortress. Definitely looks like Gunn is ready to tackle every element of Clark Kent’s life, whether alien or human.

Lex Luthor and members of the Justice League appear in the trailer for Superman.

Superman is also presented Nicholas Hoult as the Man of Steel’s archenemy, Lex Luthor; The trailer shows glimpses of Lex scowling as Superman flies through the sky, holding a revolver and glaring at a television screen. Gunn said that the rivalry between Superman and Luthor was a major element of the film, telling Collider, “Lex hates Superman from the start, even though they don’t know each other personally.” He also emphasized that Luthor’s talent for developing cutting-edge technology is at the forefront will stand, and led All-Star Superman from Grant Morrison And Frank Leise as inspiration. It will be interesting to see a new version of Luthor that takes into account the character’s origins as a mad scientist.

Superman Superman will meet a variety of other superheroes, including Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Green Lantern Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan) and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathigi). Gardner, Hawkgirl and Mr. Terrific are shown confronting Superman at Stagg Industries while an angry mob gathers outside. In the DC Comics canon, Simon Stagg is the industrialist who takes on Metamorpho, especially since the element-changing superhero is in love with his daughter Sapphire. Although Superman Although Gardner won’t be launching any future DC projects, Gardner’s presence is also a small reminder that the Green Lantern mythology will continue to expand with DC Studios. Lanterns. The slimmer outfits also suggest that Gunn took inspiration from him Justice League Internationalin which Gardner appeared as a team member and the league was financed by Maxwell Lord (confirmed to be played by). Sean Gunn).

Between all the giant monsters, flying dogs and superhero teams, Superman brings an important element to the fore: the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane. There are little moments, like a furtive glance at the Daily Planetand big moments where the two hug while floating in the air. In another break from previous Superman projects, or even the way superhero films often portray romance, Gunn says that Clark and Lois have known each other from the start, showing that their relationship will be an important part of the film. Current Superman projects, including recently completed ones Superman & Lois And My Adventures with SupermanThey also put the relationship at the center.

“Superman” has a strong connection to the comics and a mysterious villain

The Superman Trailer shows a variety of people calling for help mixed in with John Murphyis the electric guitar-driven interpretation of the cult piece John Williams Superman Theme. One moment stands out, namely A little boy waves a homemade Superman flag. Another look reveals that the boy comes from Borovia, a deep, deep Cut to Superman’s comic story. In the second edition of SupermanThe Man of Steel finally travels to Borovia to ensure that peace talks between his rival diplomats take place. In one scene, Gunn shows that he has a deep love for the Superman mythology while also delivering a take that the audience has never seen before, and it shows Superman will be a real film event.
