Times Square is located on Broadway in Manhattan’s theater district, between the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Rockefeller Center. The New Year’s Eve ball sits on a flagpole atop the One Times Square building, once known as the Times Tower.

Spectator checkpoints are set up at 49th, 52nd and 56th Streets at Sixth and Eighth Avenues. Organizers say the best viewing spots are on Broadway from 43rd to 50th Streets and on Seventh Avenue to 59th Streets north.

Visitors are encouraged to travel by public transportation, and the MTA says there will be service into the evening and after midnight on lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, C, D, G, L, N, Q There will be additional subway connections and R lines as well as the 42nd Street S train shuttle. The agency says A trains will run express trains until 2:45 a.m. and buses in Midtown will be subject to detours and road closures.

Who will perform at the Times Square Ball Drop 2025?

This year The lineup includes performances by Carrie Underwood, The Jonas Brothers, Mark Ambor, Rita Ora, TLC and more. Country singer Mickey Guyton will perform the special tradition of singing John Lennon’s “Imagine” just before the ball drops.

When does the ball drop?

The ball drops at the stroke of midnight at 12:00 pm ET, ringing in the New Year. The tradition of throwing the ball goes back to 1907.

The spectator entrance opens at 3pm before the ball is lit and lifted into place at 6pm. The 60-second countdown begins at 11:59 p.m. when the confetti flies.

Once the crowd is cleared, a massive clean-up operation begins. The sanitation department is standing by to remove more than a ton of confetti.

Whether you’re heading to the ball drop or partying somewhere else, drivers can expect heavy traffic throughout Manhattan.

According to the NYPD, streets around Times Square will be closed starting at 4 a.m. from West 34th Street to West 59th Street between Sixth Avenue and Eighth Avenue

Once again, officials say mass transit is the best way to get around.
