YouTube TV increases the streaming price by to .99 per month

YouTube TV increases the streaming price by $10 to $82.99 per month

If you’re a YouTube TV subscriber, your monthly bill is about to get bigger again.

Alphabet-owned YouTube is raising prices on its popular TV streaming service, which has more than 8 million subscribers. Starting in January, the cost of the platform will increase from $72.99 to $82.99 per month.

The recent price increase for YouTube TV is due to rising content costs, the company said.

“We do not make these decisions lightly and recognize that this impacts our members. We’re committed to bringing you features that transform the way we watch live TV,” said an email to YouTube TV subscribers on Thursday.

The price increase will be reflected in members’ first billing cycle after January 13th. Subscribers can review the plan they subscribe to by checking their account’s membership settings.

YouTube acknowledged that some viewers may cancel their subscriptions given the price increase and reminded customers that they can do so at any time.

YouTube follows other major streaming services in raising prices for consumers this year. In August, Disney increased the price of both its ad-supported and ad-free Disney+ services by $2. An ad-supported subscription costs $9.99, while the ad-free version costs $15.99 monthly. Additionally, the price of the Hulu + Live TV package has been increased.

Apple TV+, Disney+ and Paramount+ have also either increased their prices, offered new service levels or cracked down on password sharing (CBS News is owned by Paramount Global, which offers the Paramount+ streaming service).

And more and more streamers are also using bundles to take part in the live action. YouTube TV’s new price is $82.99, matching the price advertised for Disney’s Hulu + Live TV package.

YouTube TV has repeatedly increased its price since launching in 2017, when a subscription cost $35 per month. Until 2019, the monthly cost was $50. YouTube last increased the fee to $72.99 in March 2023.
