Zendaya and Tom Holland are taking their relationship to the next level!

The Spider-Man The two 28-year-old co-stars are engaged, a family source confirmed to PEOPLE. TMZ was first to report the news. According to the outlet, Holland proposed over the holidays at one of Zendaya’s family homes.

A separate source tells PEOPLE that “everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening” — just not when. The source said Holland has been desperate to propose to Zendaya “for some time.”

“He was always crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. There is something very special about them,” the source said, noting that Holland shared the good news with friends on New Year’s Day.

The couple wants to take their time getting married. “They’re going to enjoy things for now and not rush the wedding,” the source added. “They’re both busy with work projects.”

In the meantime, the two enjoy the special moment. “Tom always had this nice way of letting the world know that Zendaya was his. Now it’s official—it’s really her!” the source tells PEOPLE.

The news comes after Zendaya attended the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 5, wearing a diamond ring on her left ring finger. The ring appears to be a 5.02-carat East-West Cushion Diamond Button Back ring by Jessica McCormack, listed in the engagement section of the jewelry brand’s website.

Holland previously hinted at his “secret” vacation plans with his now-fiancée when he appeared on the Dec. 18 episode Court Podcast. “I’ll be with my girlfriend’s family, which will be fun. Where we will be is a secret,” he said of his plans to spend Christmas in the United States

“(Secret) for you,” he joked. “I’ll know where we’re going.”

Holland and Zendaya – who play on-screen couple Peter Parker and Michelle “MJ” Jones Spider-Man Movies – claimed they were just friends for years. But just months after their characters shared their first kiss in 2019 Spider-Man: Far From HomeLife imitated art for the couple. Much to fans’ delight, they were spotted kissing in a car in July 2021, confirming their off-screen romance.

They went Instagram official in September of that year, with Holland sharing a selfie of the couple in honor of Zendaya’s 25th birthday, lovingly captioning it, ” euphoria Tag “my MJ” in the caption.

Weeks later, in an interview with GQHolland expressed his desire to keep their relationship private. “One of the downsides of our fame is that we can no longer really control privacy and a moment that you thought was between two people who love each other very much is now a moment that you share with the whole world.” he says told the outlet.

He added that the couple would decide together when was the right time to share details about their relationship.

“That’s not my story our Story. And we’ll talk about what it is when we’re ready to talk about it together,” Holland said.

The couple’s romance continued to blossom in the months and years that followed. And while they kept a low profile, Zendaya quietly shared her love for Holland. In a June 2022 Instagram post celebrating the Unexplored On the star’s 26th birthday, she simply wrote: “Happy birthday to the one who makes me the happiest <3," alongside a black and white snap of the couple cuddling.

In March 2023, she was seen wearing a gold ring with Dutch initials engraved in a video posted to Instagram by Zendaya’s nail artist.

In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter In June 2023, Holland reiterated why the couple prefers to keep their relationship a secret. “Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of and want to keep as sacred as possible,” he explained at the time. “We don’t think we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing and it has nothing to do with it. What are we doing with our careers?”

The following month, he revealed that his relationship with Zendaya was the “most sacred thing” in his life.

“I don’t talk about it. I’m trying my best to keep it as private as possible,” he said while appearing Intentionally with Jay Shetty Podcast. “We both feel strongly that this is the healthiest way to move forward as a couple.”

Zendaya echoed this sentiment in an interview with ElleShe told the magazine that her priority was “protecting the peace” in her relationship with Holland amid the relentless public interest and paparazzi presence.
