Zendaya and Tom Holland are engaged after a vacation proposal

The 2025 Golden Globes wasn’t the first time Zendaya sparked engagement rumors with her longtime partner Tom Holland. However, when fans noticed she was wearing a diamond ring on her left ring finger and showing off a small “T” tattoo for the first time on the red carpet, some wondered if she was making a subtle announcement.

After the ceremony, TMZ reported that Zendaya actually debuted an engagement ring. Sources close to the couple said Holland proposed between Christmas and New Year’s “at one of Zendaya’s family homes in the United States.” The marriage proposal was “very romantic and intimate” and just between the couple.

The outlet added that the couple hasn’t started wedding planning yet and given their work schedules, “it will be a while before they get into wedding planning,” TMZ wrote.

Additionally, sources told TMZ that Holland asked Zendaya’s father, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, for his blessing “months ago.” He admitted it, the sources said, noting that the family was happy for the couple and loved Holland.

Holland “waited months to actually propose because he was waiting for the right moment,” TMZ wrote.

Zendaya played it self-effacing when asked if she was engaged at the Golden Globes Los Angeles Times. A recently hired reporter for the outlet “held up her left ring finger and pointed at it” as Zendaya exited the Golden Globes ceremony room, the outlet wrote. Zendaya “responded by flashing her own bling on her left hand while doing some kind of jazzy finger movement,” the outlet wrote. Zendaya was asked if she was engaged immediately. The actress “constantly showed off her ring, smiled shyly and shrugged mysteriously,” the outlet said.

Holland and Zendaya were first romantically linked in 2021, but their friendship dates back to 2016. In April, a source said People that they take their future together very seriously.

“There have been talks about marriage, and that is a reality,” the insider said, adding that they would not be making any milestones public. “They are not the type of stars who organize most of their lives on social media,” the source said. “Both are private. (The attention that fame brings them) hasn’t been easy or comfortable for any of them.”

Zendaya spoke to ELLE in the summer of 2023 about how she tries to protect certain parts of her relationship. “I accept that parts of my life will be public,” she said. “I can’t be a human being, live my life and love the person I love. But I also have control over what I share. It’s about protecting peace and letting things take care of themselves, but also not being afraid of existence. You can’t hide. That’s no fun either. I’m navigating it now more than ever.”
