Zion Williamson is out for the Pelicans’ game against the Mavericks | Pelicans

One evening, after being on the verge of recording his first career triple double, Zion Williamson is called up for the New Orleans Pelicans’ Wednesday night game against the Dallas Mavericks at the Smoothie King Center.

Williamson had 21 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds in Tuesday’s road win over the Chicago Bulls.

He will not play on Wednesday as it is the second night in a row.

The Pelicans listed Williamson as out due to a “resumption of play.”

Pelicans coach Willie Green was asked before Wednesday’s game whether it is a team decision or a Williamson decision if Williamson does not play on the second night of a meeting.

“It’s more of a team decision,” Green said.

It is the second time Williamson has missed a second game in a row since returning after a 27-game absence. His first game back from his hamstring injury was last Tuesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he missed the following night when the Pelicans lost to the Portland Trail Blazers.

“Once he gets more games under his belt, he’ll be able to play in some of those (back-to-back) games,” Green said last week.

The Pelicans are coming off a road trip in which they went 2-1, defeated the Philadelphia 76ers and the Bulls, and lost just one point to the Boston Celtics. Williamson did not play against the 76ers as the team was suspended one game for being late for team activities.

After Wednesday’s game against the Mavericks, the Pelicans (9-32) host the Utah Jazz on Friday and Monday.

The next back-to-back games on the schedule are January 24th and 25th when they play the Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Hornets.
